n the
preceding course, we put in place the necessary elements to decode in the major guidelines, the symbolism of the different arcanas. We will now give their
divinatory definitions.
The actual
objective is not to push the study to the point of analyzing all the details of a card, but to give you the principal idea that it symbolizes. Further
along in the courses, the intricate details will be analyzed. |
In the
introduction, we mentioned the danger of the impression a card could give, without understanding its exact meaning.
One’s command of the arcane must be complete. In this lesson, five aspects of the cards will be given :
1. A summarized description of the initial idea of the arcane.
2. The underlying meaning of some of the particular points of the
arcane, on the divinatory level.
3. A simplified definition of the arcanas, bringing forth key words
on three different levels: psychological, situational, and event-based.
4. A detailed definition of the arcanas, giving shades and
particularities on three distinct levels: psychological, situational and event based.
5. An easy reference table, a true memory helper that you should
reproduce and keep with you when you do draws.
|
Regarding
the fifth point, let us state that is not recommended that you do an interpretation of a game with lots of papers or books hanging around, nor should you
look at them and search for the right definition while doing a reading.
You
will always find yourself out of the subject or out of context. We do not draw Tarot cards by forcing the card to have the definition you think is the
best, in order to understand the future. This is not the way it should be done. We have said this before, but it is necessary to understand that it is
the Tarot that must explain to you what you must grasp of the game. |
...
SUGGESTIONS FOR A GOOD METHOD OF INTERPRETATION |
1-
You
have, by now, studied the principal idea of a card which you may grasp very well, although you may
not have a thorough command of all the words and their subtleties to convey them. This is normal; the ramifications of an archetypal concept are
limited. But you know the major guidelines to avoid finding yourselves lost in uncertainties or doubts, keep your mind from
seeing what it wants to project or see, as opposed to what the cards are saying.
2-
You
know the circumstance that called for the draw, so you can visualize the basic elements that
frame it : « I am single… » = whatever he will experience, you must visualize a single
man. « I work in a company » = whatever is going on in the company, you must
visualize the person working in the company. « I am in a relationship » = whatever the state of their bond, you must
visualize a couple, and so on.
It
is obvious that the Tarot reader will not be able to find the client’s issue, if he has not properly interpreted the cards.
But by visualizing the subject that wants the draw, he gives without
realizing, a stage to the reading, in which the characters will evolve; they are the arcane of the Tarot. Consequently, he will hear and see
the exact drama. His unconscious mind will mold his knowledge of the Tarot to the story given by the cards.
In
a way, since we are talking about interpretations, (i.e. of the interpreter), to
visualize the object of a draw consists of choosing the language spoken between the arcanas, to understand them, and
consequently, to translate them for the client. Indeed, the language we are talking about here is not English (the language of business), French (the
language of thought), or Spanish (the language of love), but the language interpreting and translating, for
example, the context of a job, a project or a sentimental issue.
|
WE SAY IT AGAIN:
BEFORE ANY INTERPRETATION
YOU MUST ALWAYS ESTABLISH THE SUBJECT MATTER! |
As
said in the proverb:
That
which is conceived well is pronounced clearly
And the words to express it come in quantity...
If
your explanations are incoherent, it is evident that you haven’t ascertained your subject, nor understood your game or grasped the concept of the card. |
3-
Quickly
reading the key words in your memory-help book, you activate the
spirit of the card, then by putting aside your booklet and looking at the interpreted card…EVERYTHING BECOMES CLEAR ! And Surprise ! Words surge
out of nowhere, words which aren’t even in the memory guide, words that suddenly adapt perfectly to the draw to express correctly what must be said to the
client !

By
respecting the above-mentioned concepts, you will become a true interpreter of the Tarot, or should we say, a
true translator speaking all the factual languages of the Tarot.
In
this lesson, the study of the cards must be done in the same spirit : you must have the cards in
front of you and while looking at them, comprehend the main idea, and read the particular and detailed definitions. It is the only way to acquire a
solid Tarot base, divinations which are simple to do yet very efficient. On this clear basis, you will have a better opportunity to strengthen your knowledge,
which we will help you achieve with great pleasure !
Never
forget that it is « better to have a head well made than a head too full... »
Let
us mention that the different tables about the arcanas given below, are taken from the book : « Mon Premier Livre du Tarot » and « Le Tirage en Croix du
Tarot » (in French), by Kris Hadar, published by « Les Editions de Mortagne ».

The
Definition of the Cards in their
Upright and Reversed Positions
|
At
the risk of repeating ourselves, the 22 arcanas of the Tarot express a wheel of energy. There are no good or
bad energies but simply energies, which, according to the area where they apply, will carry the client or simply block him.
Cards do not have to be reversed or upright to indicate that they are favorable or
unfavorable to the client in his particular context. For instance, THE HERMIT, whether reversed or not, will delay the
impulses of the heart ! That it is by prudence (The HERMIT upright) or by fear (the HERMIT reversed), the main definition of the arcane does
not vary, it will always indicate solitude!
On
the other hand, in the spiritual plane, THE HERMIT brings an inner light, an experience of life, and a consciousness about existence. Whether results of
experience are accepted or not by the seeker, it will not change the fact that he would have learned something.
Indeed,
it is the field of application that will tell if a card is good or not.
The
upright card will show that the action flows from its source, while reversed, the card will indicate on top of its basic definitions, that its energy
expresses itself badly! |
Let
us take the MAGICIAN (I), which means a starting point. Whether all goes well or not, the client is living a starting point. Upright, all’s going well; reversed,
things are not going very well !
When
we know the definition of a card, whether upright or reversed, it will mean the same thing.
The challenge will reside in the difficulty or lack of it, that the energy of the card has to express itself normally!
If the MAGICIAN represents the tools that the MAGICIAN has at the disposal of the client, upright, the latter will use them efficiently; while reversed, he will
not be able to use those tools in the best or appropriate way… there again, it does not remove the definition of the card which is: the potentiality that exists
when something begins !
